6 Ways to Complement a Seafront View - Interior Design Tips

There's nothing quite like an ocean view. You've worked hard for this seaside escape, and now it's time to design your space in a way that not only lets you relax but also highlights the gorgeous view you have.  Here are some things that you can do to make the landscape outside shine:

  • One of the best ways to bring in natural light is with skylights. This light will add cheeriness to any room and make it feel larger than it actually is. A skylight might be difficult to install if your house already has a roof, but if you're building a new home or putting on an addition, consider having one installed in your ceiling.

  • Large windows are another great way to let in lots of light in a room and give you a better view of the beach. Larger panes of glass that take up your entire wall will look best if they are on the first and second floor, because they can show off more of the sky and beach.

  • Choose a neutral color scheme. Rather than showcasing bright colors, choose neutral tones throughout your home that will complement the natural colors of the ocean. White is a perfect choice because it will reflect the blue and green hues of the water and make everything look clean and crisp.

  • Remember to use light colors for flooring and walls. This is important because they will make the room appear larger and brighter, which will open up the space so that it feels more like being outdoors!

  • You want to keep window treatments simple and unobtrusive so as not to block or obstruct your view. Overly ornate curtains reduce the amount of light in a room and make it seem smaller than it really is! Opt for window shades rather than curtains if you can, or choose sheer fabrics so that they won't block out any natural light.

  • Point the furniture in your room towards the view and use it as a focal point. The ocean is something to be enjoyed, so make sure you're taking full advantage of it.

  • Add a mirror and a few other reflective surfaces to the room so that it reflects and highlights the sea view. You'll be amazed at how much this makes you feel like you're living in paradise!
  • You want to make sure that your guests can take in all that beauty from every room in the house. Reflective surfaces can be used to reflect your view, and even trick the eye into turning a small space into an expansive one. You can definitely opt for strategically positioned mirrors, or you can install a high gloss stretch ceiling! What are stretch ceilings? Well, they are made of glossy PVC and they can reflect your view and bring it into your room! You can check out some of our favorite seaside projects here.
